Seagate Cheetah 15K Hard Drive Named a SearchStorage.com ‘Product of the Year’
The editors of TechTarget’s Storage Media Group honored Seagate Technology’s(r) (NYSE:STX) Cheetah 15K.5 hard drive with a Silver award in the category of “Disk and Disk Subsystems” for its annual “Storage Products of the Year” awards. According to the review and selection team, as the only hard drive chosen, the Seagate Cheetah 15K.5 300GB hard drive earned a Silver award in the disk subsystems category for “…its impressive marriage of capacity and performance.”
The Cheetah 15K.5 hard drive was the world’s first enterprise hard drive to use perpendicular recording. Perpendicular recording technology enables the Cheetah 15K.5 to deliver twice the capacity of its previous generation while increasing performance by as much as 30%. “It is an honor to be named as one of the ‘Storage Products of the Year’,” said Sherman Black, senior vice president and general manager of Seagate’s Enterprise Compute business. “It is a testament to our customers around the world who have embraced our high-performance storage solutions, and to the team at Seagate who work tirelessly to ensure that our enterprise-class products are second-to-none.”
The awards were judged by TechTarget’s Storage magazine/SearchStorage.com editorial staff, in conjunction with a team of users, industry experts, analysts, and consultants. Judges selected the 15 “Products of the Year” from among enterprise-related products introduced, upgraded, and shipped between October 27, 2005 and November 3, 2006. After noting the Cheetah 15K.5’s benefits, the review and selection team concluded that, “The Cheetah will influence the entire storage industry.”
