Garmin Selects SDL Technology and Services

Efficient Translation Management provides key element in global strategy

SDL International, the leading provider of Global Information Management (GIM) solutions, announced today that Garmin International Inc. has chosen SDL’s technology and services to deliver a Translation Management strategy which will enable the efficient flow of information in multiple languages across its global markets.

Garmin International Inc. is a member of the Garmin Ltd. (Nasdaq: GRMN) group of companies that designs, manufactures, and markets navigation and communications equipment for the consumer and aviation markets.

“We chose SDL because they offer the knowledge, technologies, and services that Garmin needs to serve our worldwide customers more efficiently and consistently,” said Julie Medlock, Manager of Language Services for Garmin. “Using SDL to centralize our translation requirements can provide Garmin with the high-quality and timely deliverables that our worldwide customers want and deserve.”

Garmin chose SDL Translation Management System and SDL MultiTerm to enable the centralization and efficient management of all multilingual assets across the corporation. In addition, Garmin has selected SDL services for translation delivery.

SDL Translation Management System unifies the translation supply chain, providing the collaboration, control, integration and process flow required to prepare content for a global audience. It integrates with enterprise data, content and applications, wherever they are located, and manages the complex translation and localization processes. SDL MultiTerm provides a central repository for approved internal corporate terms. This system decreases the possibility for incorrect terms to be published within corporate communications, ensuring the delivery of accurate and consistent messaging and branding. Further, it integrates directly with the SDL Translation Management System to ensure consistent terminology is applied across multiple languages, from within one centralized enterprise solution.

“For businesses entering the 21st century, global information management is the battlefield,” said Dr. Chris Boorman, Chief Marketing Officer for SDL International. “Language expertise along with cultural understanding will make the difference between winning and losing and we are delighted to be partnering with Garmin to help them differentiate and compete in the global market.”
