Sony Ericsson applauds Wimbledon on Equal Prize Money Announcement
As the global sponsor of the Women’s Tennis Association Tour, Sony Ericsson applauds today’s announcement from Wimbledon to award equal prize money to women at the 2007 Wimbledon Championships. Miles Flint, president of Sony Ericsson, said ” As global sponsor of the Tour we welcome Wimbledon’s decision to award equal prize money at this year’s championships. Since Billy Jean King started the fight for equal prize money many years ago, both the WTA and players have campaigned on this issue and we are extremely happy for them that Wimbledon has made this announcement today.
Sony Ericsson is proud to be associated with women’s tennis, and believes the excitement and competitiveness of the women’s tour makes it right that these sports stars, who are icons for millions of people around the world, are fully recognized and equally rewarded for their contribution to the sport.”
