IDS Scheer’s ARIS Platform Chosen by Microsoft to Help Take BPM Mainstream

Companies Partner to Interface ARIS Modeling and Monitoring Capabilities with Microsoft BizTalk Server
Gartner Business Process Management Summit 2007

IDS Scheer, the leading provider of solutions for business process excellence, today announced at the Gartner Business Process Management Summit it has been selected by Microsoft to be a preferred BPM modeling and monitoring partner as part of Microsoft’s commitment to building a network with the formation of the Business Process Alliance. The Business Process Alliance is comprised of companies whose offerings enhance the Microsoft business process management (BPM) technology platform by providing integrated solutions in areas such as business process modeling, simulation, and business rules design. The offering is based on the real world experience gained by Siemens IT Operations automating their business processes using IDS Scheer and Microsoft products.

Siemens IT Operations generated executable processes for the BizTalk Server and Web services code with the ARIS UML Designer, a component of ARIS SOA ArchitectTM (Process to Applications). ARIS SOA Architect provides a thorough implementation of optimized business processes based on existing applications, offers time and cost savings in the development of individual software and implementation of middleware, enables the orchestration of business processes through industry standard web services and BPM protocols, and features complete, always up-to-date documentation for better communication between technical and development departments. “Over the past two years, we have realized significant productivity increases through the use of ARIS to model our business processes and execute them with the BizTalk Server,” said Thomas Buse, section manager in Siemens ITO, Concepts and Processes at Siemens AG. “We are honored that our implementation has been transformed into a template for extending the benefits of Business Process Management (BPM) to mainstream customers.”

“Microsoft is taking business process management to the mainstream and truly recognizes the openness of our ARIS Platform as the de facto standard for process excellence,” said Kapi Attawar, vice president, Strategic Technology Alliances, IDS Scheer. “This relationship also sets the stage to leverage our joint success with Siemens and productize the offering as a solution package for continuous process improvement.”

“With strong technologies such as those provided by IDS Scheer, the Business Process Alliance is extending the value of BPM to a broader set of customers enabling people to drive business results with People-Ready Processes,” said Steven Martin, Director of the Connected Systems Product Management at Microsoft Corp. “The adoption of People-Ready Processes offers customers a powerful set of end-to-end solutions for automating business processes by giving people the information they need to make decision or take action.”

“Cost and deployment speed factor strongly in the selection of a BPM solution. Because process modeling is becoming such a big part of automating and improving processes, IT organizations using Microsoft BizTalk Server will gain both time and cost benefits from the efforts between IDS Scheer and Microsoft to integrate process modeling with development,” said Maureen Fleming, Program Director for IDC’s Business Process Automation and Deployment Service.

The topic of “Open BPM” was the theme for IDS Scheer’s ARIS ProcessWorld conference which took place in early February. Open BPM represents an approach to open technology standards, the adoption of open BPM tools like ARIS, as well as an open network of partners to deliver best-in-class solutions for process excellence and service-oriented architectures. “The expansion of this Microsoft and IDS Scheer relationship to productize the interface between ARIS and BizTalk Server validates the adoption of BPM as a mainstream offering and a critical success factor in realizing SOA,” said Dr. Mathias Kirchmer, Chief Innovation & Marketing Officer for IDS Scheer. “The true value of SOA comes with business process management.”
