Ingres Corporation Expands Board of Directors
Appoints Former Head of HP Services Steve Smith to Board
Ingres Corporation, the leading business open source database company, today announced it has expanded its board of directors with the appointment of Steve M. Smith, former senior vice president of HP Services.
Smith brings a wealth of global services and growth management experience to the Ingres Board having overseen the expansion of HP’s global consulting and integration; managed services; and multi-billion dollar technology deployment and support businesses. In fiscal year 2006, Smith led a nearly 70,000-person worldwide organization generating $15.6 billion in HP global services revenue.
Prior to HP, Smith was vice president of Lucent Technologies’ global professional and managed services division with 1,800 employees and $600 million in revenue responsibility. Under Smith’s leadership, Lucent became a leading consulting and network integrator worldwide, and Lucent’s Professional Services business unit grew at twice the market’s average.
Smith began his career at Electronic Data Systems Corporation (EDS) where he was chief sales officer and president of EDS Asia Pacific, among a variety of sales and management positions he held during his 17-year tenure there. Smith’s early career at EDS included introducing the latest technologies into industries such as communications and media, high tech, and travel and transportation. A graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Smith holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.
“Steve has been at the forefront of the bourgeoning global professional services and support industry from its early stages,” said Terry Garnett, chairman and chief executive officer of Ingres Corporation. “The Ingres Board will benefit from Steve’s insight into helping Global 2000 customers implement the latest cost-effective IT management strategies, and from his experiences turning market opportunities into high growth businesses.”
“Ingres has a tremendous opportunity to lead the transition from a product-based database market to a services-based one,” said Smith. “With a mature and proven database, it can focus its attention on delivering highly attractive enterprise support and services based on its open source business model. I look forward to working with Terry and the Ingres Board to further its progress in the global marketplace.”
