New England-Based Community Hospital Signs Multi-Suite Lawson Software Contract
Lawson system will help Wentworth-Douglass Hospital support rapid growth, more efficiently manage financial and supply chain processes
Lawson Software (Nasdaq:LWSN) today announced that Wentworth-Douglass Hospital licensed its Enterprise Financial Management and Supply Chain Management suites in Lawson’s third quarter of fiscal 2007, which ends Feb. 28, 2007. Lawson made the announcement in conjunction with its participation in this week’s 2007 Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Conference and Exhibition in New Orleans. The Lawson applications will help the hospital support its rapid growth by standardizing financial and materials management processes, improving data access and increasing operational efficiencies.
Located in Dover, N.H., Wentworth-Douglass Hospital is a 178-bed, not for profit hospital serving the Seacoast area of New Hampshire and southern Maine with more than 1,700 employees.
“We’ve tripled in size over the past 10 years, and this growth has far outpaced the capabilities of our legacy business systems,” said Jeff Pollock, chief information officer, Wentworth-Douglass Hospital. “The new Lawson applications will enable us to standardize and automate workflows between our financial and materials management departments so we can drive timely decision-making and more accurately track purchasing.”
The hospital’s legacy business systems required employees to follow time-consuming, manual processes for purchase order requisitions and invoice reconciliation. Without integration between Wentworth Douglass’ financial and materials departments, employees often spent considerable time searching for critical information and manually transferring that data between departments.
Once implemented, the Web-based Lawson system will provide a single user interface for employees to quickly access and share financial and supply chain information. It also will offer “drill down” capabilities to the transaction level. With greater visibility into hospital-wide data, Wentworth-Douglass will be able to better track critical information, such as supply inventory in the operating room. The consolidated Lawson system will also help the hospital streamline invoice approval processes, eliminate duplicate data entry and more effectively manage budgets in accordance with its financial goals.
By increasing operational efficiencies through streamlined financial and supply chain processes, Wentworth-Douglas will free up time and financial resources to focus on more strategic initiatives. Ultimately, this will help give the hospital more control over the business to better manage margins and patient care requirements. The hospital expects to complete its Lawson implementation by January 2008.
“Community hospitals need business applications that offer rich functionality yet are simple and easy to use,” said Stacey Hicks, healthcare marketing director, Lawson Software. “Wentworth-Douglass will benefit from Lawson’s deep expertise in helping hundreds of healthcare providers establish a solid IT foundation to effectively manage their business operations. Ultimately, this will help them fulfill their mission to provide high quality care within the constraints of sound fiscal management.”
