New Wireless Firewall Router From ZyXEL Taps Cellular Network

Arming consumers and mobile workers with secure broadband Internet access regardless of their location, ZyXEL Communications today announced the ZyWALL-2WG, a mobile broadband security appliance. ZyXEL’s new wireless firewall router features mobile broadband capability for Internet access wherever cellular phone service is available.

A leading provider of secure broadband networking and Internet connectivity and routing products, ZyXEL is showcasing the new ZyWALL-2WG this week at RSA 2007 in San Francisco. The ZyWALL-2WG is a mobile Internet security appliance with integrated firewall, VPN, 802.11 for wireless LAN and broadband Internet access through 3G networks. Ideal for tradeshows, outdoor events and Internet access in trains or buses, the new appliance features HSDPA / GSM / EDGE 3G support through a PCMCIA card slot. Combined with a wired environment, the ZyWALL-2WG supports WAN backup, load balancing Fail-Over and Fail-Back technologies and its Wi-Fi technology offers dual band flexibility with 802.11a/b/g for LAN users. Built-in security features include SPI firewall, IPSEC VPN and content filtering for state of the art protection against Internet attacks.

“Our mantra for the ZyWALL product line: ‘integration, mobility, flexibility and security’ all of which are key requirements for our customers and the products they adopt,” said Munira Brooks, senior vice president of sales, marketing and business development. “The ZyWALL-2WG enables consumers and remote workers to expand their mobility have the flexibility of the cellular network, a fully integrated appliance and the security and speed of the ZyWALL product line wherever they need it.”

Previously, cellular Internet service required each computer to have a PCMCIA card from a service provider. With the ZyWALL-2WG, only one card from service providers such as AT&T (Cingular) is required and other computers are able to securely share the network connection over wireless LAN. Fast cellular data speeds up to 3.6Mbps make the appliance ideal for environments that may not have Internet access readily available. The ZyWALL-2WG is also able to provide 3G services to those customers who might have been out of reach before.
