Monster Employment Index UK Surges in February as Online Recruitment Activity Rebounds from January Slowdown
— Administrative and Organisation Sector Opportunities Rise Sharply in London and the Midlands —
— Craft Workers See Highest Rate of Growth in Online Demand—
— The South West and the Midlands Register Strong Growth Following Two-Month Decline —
Online recruitment activity and related employment opportunities across the United Kingdom peaked in February, as the Monster Employment Index rose by 19 points to reach a historical high of 140. The sharp increase followed a slight drop in January; year-on-year growth of the Index now stands at 12 points.
The administration and organisation industry sector helped to fuel the rise in recruitment activity as did banking, finance and insurance. Unlike January, there was a rise in both white and blue-collar jobs across the UK. Production, manufacturing, maintenance and repair was the only major industry sector to register a drop in demand.
Eight out of nine occupation groups tracked by the Index registered greater online recruitment opportunities. The highest increases were reported for craft workers; technicians and professionals.
Amongst the regions, the highest levels of recruitment activity were recorded in the Midlands and the South-West. Meanwhile, following a record rise for online recruitment activity in Scotland in January, the Index decreased significantly in February for this region.
