See For Yourself: Pearson Teams With Google Video to Offer Educational Video Content

Test Prep Videos and Lectures From Acclaimed Math Author Elayn Martin-Gay Now Ready for Download

Mathematics continues to be a challenge for many college students. To help provide them with direct access to video study tools, Pearson Higher Education, the largest textbook publisher in the U.S. higher education market, is working with Google Video to make content available for download at http://www.video.google.com.

Lecture videos and Test Prep videos to accompany Prealgebra (fifth edition) by market-leading mathematics author Elayn Martin-Gay are now posted at Google Video and can be downloaded to a PC, Mac, video iPod, or Sony PSP. A section of the Lecture videos and a chapter of the Test Prep videos can be downloaded at no charge at http://www.prenhall.com/freelecturevideo and http://www.prenhall.com/freetestprepvideo.

Students can purchase sections of the Lecture Videos for $0.99 each; a chapter of the Test Prep videos for $1.99; and a full chapter of the Lecture Videos for $3.99.

Lecture and Test Prep videos for seven additional Martin-Gay titles from Pearson Prentice Hall will be available for download by summer 2007, covering basic college mathematics, introductory algebra, and, intermediate algebra.

Elayn Martin-Gay, who has taught mathematics at the University of New Orleans for more than 25 years, is a pioneer in the use of lecture and test prep videos to help math students. Her numerous teaching awards include the local University Alumni Association’s Award for Excellence in Teaching; and Outstanding Developmental Educator at University of New Orleans, presented by the Louisiana Association of Developmental Educators.

“The [Martin-Gay] videos help students in so many ways, if they are absent, if they don’t understand a concept, or if they just want some reinforcement,” said Jane Wampler, Instructor, Housatonic Community College. “The videos are a great way to get the extra help they need at a time when it’s convenient for the students.”

“The majority of students who watch these lecture videos regularly are those getting good, solid grades because they help them reinforce the main concepts of the sections/chapters,” said Gregory Nguyen, Instructor, Fullerton College. “And the author’s soothing voice in these videos also helps.”

“Elayn has helped millions of math students succeed through her texts and videos, and now they will have even greater access to her materials,” said Paul Murphy, executive editor for developmental mathematics at Pearson Prentice Hall. “We are constantly seeking new ways to connect with students and this offering will make a real difference in student retention and success rates.”
