FCUL Service Group, Inc. Partners With SecureWorks to Keep Florida Credit Unions’ IT Systems Safe

The FCUL Service Group has partnered with SecureWorks, the leading Managed Security Services Provider, to offer SecureWorks’ information security services to Florida credit unions.

Florida credit unions will have access to all of SecureWorks’ services to secure their networks and ensure compliance. Services include 24×7 monitoring and/or management of virtually any security device including firewalls, intrusion prevention and detection devices, network devices, servers, etc. by GIAC-certified experts. In addition, Secureworks provides encrypted e-mail services, vulnerability scanning and threat intelligence. SecureWorks’ professional services offerings will also be available including: security program development, compliance preparation/reporting, risk assessments and emergency phishing takedown services.

“After thorough due-diligence, the FCUL Service Group, Inc. is excited to announce our partnership with SecureWorks,” said Marvin Garland, Chief Operating Officer. “We chose SecureWorks to be a preferred provider of information security services because they have a proven track record and the right mix of products and services to help our credit unions protect themselves against cyber threats.”

“SecureWorks blocked more than 275 million hacker attacks against our nearly 500 credit union clients in 2006, which is why our partnership with the FCUL Service Group is so important,” explained Mike Cote, president & CEO of SecureWorks. “We want to educate all Florida credit unions on the severity of emerging threats and reassure them that they have a viable option for combating these threats.”

SecureWorks’ credit union clients in Florida experienced 4,181,284 attack attempts in the first two months of 2007, compared to 2,111,281 in the first two months of 2006.

Financial institutions in general are heavily targeted by hackers, but credit unions in particular are especially sought after by cyber criminals. In 2006, SecureWorks saw over eight million more cyber attacks against its credit union clients than its bank clients. SecureWorks believes credit unions often experience more hacker attacks than banks because hackers assume credit unions are less protected than banks.

“We hear many of our smaller credit union prospects say they can’t imagine a hacker would want to target them because they are small,” said Cote. “Unfortunately, it is a mistake for any financial institution to think that they are safe because of their size.”
