Philips supports Hermitage Amsterdam
Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) announced today that it will be one of the two main sponsors of the Hermitage Amsterdam, commencing a five-year partnership from 1 March 2008. Philips partnership with the Amsterdam brand of Russia’s renowned state Hermitage museum, supports the museum’s journey to integrate into the global cultural space providing a world-class source of art that is not available in Western Europe.
Gerard Kleisterlee, President and CEO of Philips said the company’s support will help make one of the world’s largest foremost houses of art, as accessible as possible for the greatest number of visitors in Amsterdam. “We are extremely pleased to support the Hermitage Amsterdam which enables Philips to serve as a catalyst for bringing exciting and new exhibitions to Western Europe that would otherwise not be available for viewing.” said Mr Kleisterlee. “The partnership strengthens Philips ties with Russia, a fast-growing economy which stands at an important position in the global market of Philips,” he added.
Ernst Veen, Director of the Hermitage Amsterdam welcomed Philips as a main sponsor to this exciting museum project in Amsterdam. ‘With the support of Philips we are able to realize our dream of the Hermitage Amsterdam and bring wonderful exhibitions to Amsterdam. We will start the renovation soon, in the middle of 2007’.
