IAM Transforms Moroccan Communications With Nortel Next-Generation Network

Itissalat Al Maghrib (IAM), the leading telecommunications service provider in Morocco, will deploy an IMS-ready, next-generation network based on Nortel* [NYSE/TSX: NT] technology in the cities of Rabat and Casablanca. This new network will allow IAM to offer businesses and consumers a full range of advanced multimedia services such as VoIP, mobile VoIP, video telephony, file exchange and integrated voice mail and messaging.

As the first service provider in Morocco to deploy a converged next-generation network, IAM is potentially revolutionizing communications in the region. The enhanced capacity of the network will allow IAM to increase the number of subscribers and enable them to benefit from new advanced multimedia services.

“Nortel’s next-generation network technology enables IAM to develop an evolutionary path to IMS-based services that will encourage new revenue streams and provide businesses with seamlessly integrated voice, video, collaboration and presence capabilities,” said Michel Clement, president, Southern Europe and Africa, Nortel. “The realization of this project will help IAM to remain a leader in the Moroccan market.”

The new IAM next-generation network meets the requirements of modern communications standards including IMS. The network integrates the Nortel Communication Server 2000 superclass softswitch, Nortel Media Gateway 15000 carrier-grade and IAM’s existing digital switched telephone network to enable SIP-based multimedia services and expand capacity. Carriers around the world are leveraging Nortel’s industry-leading carrier VoIP and IMS-ready technology to provide unified voice, messaging and multimedia communications services that can be used in the office or while working remotely.
