Open Solutions Alliance Gets Down to Business – Publishes Interoperability Roadmap, Announces First Major Project and Board of Directors

Open Solutions Alliance Gets Down to Business – Publishes Interoperability Roadmap, Announces First Major Project and Board of D

The Open Solutions Alliance (OSA), a nonprofit, vendor-neutral consortium dedicated to driving interoperability and adoption of comprehensive open solutions, today announced the availability of the OSA Interoperability Roadmap, its first major project and its first board of directors.

The OSA Interoperability Roadmap prioritizes projects to effectively ensure the most critical interoperability aspects are addressed among open solutions and to identify realistic timelines for project completions. The OSA Interoperability Roadmap and the projects it reflects are community driven and include among its priorities the Common Customer View Prototype, the first major OSA project. Additional priorities included in the Roadmap are single sign-on for web applications, management for monitoring and logging, and application compatibility for Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

The Roadmap is based on hundreds of conversations with CIOs, IT managers and systems integrators and is open for review and contribution at: http://www.opensolutionsalliance.org/team/ProjectManagement.do?command=Project Center&section=File_Library&pid=1&folderId=-1.

“Since launching in February, the OSA has been engaged in some very important work with folks from across the software industry. We are moving quickly to address two of the most important issues for ensuring the adoption of open solutions — interoperability among applications and awareness of these applications among users,” said Barry Klawans, OSA board member and chief technology officer at JasperSoft. “The speedy release of our Interoperability Roadmap, the quick engagement on our first major project and the election of our first board puts the essential building blocks in place to continue to deliver important tools and information to the market.”

This OSA’s first major project, the Common Customer View Prototype, will address the need to have a single source of authority in enterprise applications for all aspects of customer data. It will provide the details for pulling together this data from diverse front office, back-office and planning applications to present a complete view of each customer to the business user. The OSA expects the Common Customer View Prototype to become a reference implementation for interoperability proposals, such as:

– Single sign-on — Common search — UI integration — Data integration — real-time synchronization of business data — Application APIs – best practices for exposing business data with loosely-coupled API’s

The Common Customer View Prototype can be reviewed at: http://www.opensolutionsalliance.org/team/ProjectManagement.do?command=Project Center&pid=26.

The OSA today also announced its first board of directors, which has been elected by membership vote. The OSA board represents the maturing market for open solutions with leadership from companies that are collaborating throughout the industry to address the needs of business users. The OSA board of directors includes:

– Anthony Gold, vice president and general manager, Open Source Business, Unisys Corporation — Michael Harvey, chief marketing officer and vice president of Corporate Development, CentricCRM — Barry Klawans, chief technology officer, JasperSoft — Josep Mitja, chief operating officer, Openbravo — Dominic Sartorio, director of product management, SpikeSource About the Open Solutions Alliance
