Swedish Armed Forces Signs Contract With IBM Regarding Implementation of SAP
The Swedish Armed Forces (AF) today signed a contract with IBM (NYSE: IBM) regarding implementation of SAP, an enterprise resource planning system (ERP). Besides SAP, IBM selected Capgemini and WM-data as subcontractors.
The AF’s development toward a flexible operational defense adds new requirements that must be fulfilled with uniform processes and procedures and more developed decision support, among other things.
By using a standardized ERP system, the AF intends to achieve higher quality, cost-effective processes and procedures within these operations areas: HR, finance, logistics, management, and governance.
“ERP system implementation is strategically aligned with ongoing development of the Armed Forces and its operations,” says General Director Marie Hafström. “We want to achieve streamlined financial control and more accurate reporting of implemented initiatives. And thanks to a joint system, we can plan more precisely for competence and materiel (equipment) needs. That way, we enhance support for our troop units.”
