Scientific Atlanta Expands Relationship with itaas to Include OCAPTM Developer Program

Scientific Atlanta, a Cisco company, today announced the addition of the OpenCableTM Application Platform (OCAPTM) developer program, expanding the company’s relationship with iTV services provider itaas. As the industry evolves and OCAP capabilities continue to be adopted and executed, Scientific Atlanta is taking advantage of itaas’ istart Developer Program – enabling application developers to build OCAP applications more easily and efficiently using Scientific Atlanta’s complete, end-to-end OCAP platform.

Developers enrolled in the istart OCAP developer program will gain access to the Scientific Atlanta OCAP platform, including documentation, developer tools, set-tops, online downloads and the istart conference. The istart support team, highly skilled in end-to-end iTV technology, will also provide technical support and assistance to accelerate OCAP application development. Similar to the istart SARA (Scientific Atlanta Resident Application) and InViewTM developer programs, the istart OCAP developer program will help maximize OCAP development efficiencies by reducing market entry costs, speeding time-to-market and springboarding further innovative application development.

“OCAP represents a prime opportunity for the escalating growth of advanced digital TV services,” said Jeff Seebeck, vice president, product strategy and development for Subscriber Networks, Scientific Atlanta. “One of the ways Scientific Atlanta is committed to helping operators take advantage of these opportunities is by establishing a standard platform and developing technologies that seamlessly bridge multiple applications across multiple devices. We are proud to expand our relationship with itaas to foster the rapid development of these innovative market-driven applications.”

“The newest addition to our istart developer program will address the variety of technical challenges often encountered during interactive application development on a new platform,” said Jatin Desai, itaas chief technology officer. “With the istart OCAP developer program, application developers can continue to benefit from the synergies offered by itaas’ developer programs across the various platforms. We are excited about this opportunity that further strengthens our relationship with Scientific Atlanta and supports our mission to expand iTV applications in the industry.”
