Google Announces Top 10 Gainers for the Week Ending May 5th

A multitude of sporting events were on the minds of people who searched on Google.com during the week, and we mean all kinds of sports. Some looked to fall by with the [nfl draft] (the longest one ever held by the National Football League), which yielded picks for its upcoming season. In particular Cleveland Browns’ rookie quarterback [brady quinn] garnered attention in his first workout with his new team. And as the basketball season winds down, the [golden state warriors] did the unthinkable by becoming the first No. 8 seed to beat a No. 1 seed in the NBA best of seven playoffs by beating the Dallas Mavericks in game #6 this week. Meanwhile, thoroughbred racing fans get their due as they anticipated the 133rd running of the [kentucky derby]. This year’s hoopla features even more pomp and circumstance than usual: Queen Elizabeth is in the house. For their part, baseball fans focused on news about St. Louis Cardinals’ pitcher [josh hancock], who died this week in an alcohol-related car crash.

And then there are other sports, such as the couch potato’s favorite, [american idol]. After a two-night extravaganza including a charity event and Bon Jovi’s assists, Chris Richardson and Phil Stacey were both voted off, and fans now tune in for the final four. In the non-traditional sports category, two new names this week: Philadelphia TV reporter [alycia lane] found herself in the news for having emailed bikini-clad photos of herself to NFL Network anchor Rich Eisen (a colleague for 10 years, says Lane), which were discovered by his wife, sportscaster [suzy shuster] on their shared email account; she sent a snappy note back to Lane upon receipt. No word yet on whether or not this falls merely into the “all in good fun” category. Meanwhile, first-run movie fans and videogamers were soaking in [spiderman 3] excess: the movie opened on more screens than any other release to date, and the videogame was released to take advantage of the film’s wide opening.
