THUS Selects Managed Service from Nortel
UK network operator THUS plc is reducing the complexity of routing wholesale voice communications to international destinations over other carrier networks using a managed services solution from Nortel* [NYSE/TSX: NT]. THUS specializes in providing voice, data and Internet services for corporate and small to medium-sized enterprise (SME) customers under the THUS and Demon brands.
Nortel has implemented for THUS a customized software suite for managing the cost and quality of its international wholesale voice traffic. The Nortel EMEA Network Management Centre is also helping THUS to choose the most cost-effective routing plan by providing daily reports that analyze the latest rate plans from international carriers. These reports identify the most cost-effective routing alternatives for providing THUS with the best quality routes.
The benefit of identifying the most high-quality service for our customers is self evident, but the cost of building this capability into the network is not always feasible,” said Phil Male, chief operating officer, THUS plc. “Nortel offered an alternative that made economic sense for us – a managed services solution that delivers all the benefits without much of the upfront cost.”
“By implementing value-based routing as a managed service, THUS has helped to make business simpler for its customers,” said Urban Hofstrom, vice president, EMEA Global Services, Nortel. THUS also uses other Nortel solutions in its network, including softswitch technology for converged voice, data and VoIP services; a Metro Ethernet solution that supports THUS in providing fast, simple Ethernet services for business customers; and optical transport for local, metro and wide area networks. Nortel’s Global Services portfolio offers a full range of network application, implementation, management and support services for end-to-end multi-vendor, multi-technology networks.
