Wavesat Readies for WiMAX Certification of Mobile Wireless Internet Access Card for WiMAX Networks Worldwide
Wavesat solutions announced progress towards seeking certification of its Mobile WiMAX systems while participating in the WiMAX Forum third public Mobile WiMAX PlugFest. The event is taking place in Sophia Antipolis, France May 13-19, 2007, and tests interoperability between Wavesat’s UMobile WiMAX System and other IEEE 802.16e systems. This Mobile WiMAX PlugFest provides an opportunity for WiMAX companies to test interoperability of base stations and end user devices prior to entering the official WiMAX Forum certification process scheduled for later this year.
“Our work at this week’s event builds on our participation at the previous Mobile WiMAX PlugFest in February,” commented Frank Draper, VP Strategic Development of Wavesat. “Interoperability is key to drive worldwide adoption of WiMAX. With our growing ecosystem of ODMs and OEMs worldwide, we have a thorough understanding of what operators need for wide-scale WiMAX deployments.”
Wavesat’s 802.16e Mobile product strategy is centered around its UMobile family of WiMAX chipsets supporting all features of Mobile WiMAX Wave 2 profiles in a cost effective, flexible and highly programmable architecture.
“With 33 companies participating in this latest WiMAX Forum PlugFest, we are seeing strong growth in the number of interoperable products and increased success during testing,” said Ron Resnick, president and chairman of the WiMAX Forum. “Thanks to our member companies and PlugFest attendees, including Wavesat, we are on track to begin certifying mobile WiMAX products later this year. WiMAX Forum Certified mobile products will be interoperable, which is key in order to enhance the user experience while decreasing operator investment and consumer costs for broadband anywhere, anytime.”
Wavesat’s award-winning and WiMAX Forum Certified WiMAX products support both base stations and subscriber units for licensed and license-exempt radio frequencies. Wavesat provides a full-range of standards-based integrated circuits, software, and development platforms supporting IEEE 802.16-2004 and 802.16e-2005 standards.
Featuring the industry’s only WiMAX Mini-PCI card and chosen by ODMs and OEMs worldwide, Wavesat’s WiMAX portfolio provides effective wireless connectivity for a wide range of network sizes and coverage from urban to rural applications.
