Nortel Government Solutions Chosen for National Institutes of Health Program

Nortel Government Solutions*, a U.S. company wholly owned by Nortel* [NYSE/TSX: NT], has been chosen to lead the software development team for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Electronic Research Administration (eRA) program through 2008 under an estimated US$9 million agreement.

The eRA is the NIH infrastructure that provides secure receipt, review and administration of electronic grants. Used by more than 7,300 research institutions worldwide, the eRA provides full grant life-cycle support from initiative management through receipt, referral, review, award, fiscal administration, reporting and closeout.

NIH established the eRA in 1999 in response to the Government Paperwork Elimination Act, which required federal agencies to make transactions electronic, when practical, by October 2003. Nortel Government Solutions, which has supported the eRA program since 2003, is teaming with Northrop Grumman and Booz Allen Hamilton to provide systems development, maintenance, implementation and other IT services under the new award.
